Ursachen: Ob etwas eine physische Ursache von etwas ist, hängt ab von der Getrenntheit zweier Gegenstände oder Prozesse, die als Ursache und Wirkung identifiziert werden sollen sowie der Übertragung von Energie. Ob dieses Verhältnis zustande kommt, ist demnach kontingent. Sprachlich betrachtet ist das Verhältnis von Ursache und Wirkung dagegen ein notwendiges Verhältnis, da der Begriff Ursache nur auf etwas angewendet wird, das eine Wirkung hat.
